So I go out to my mailbox on Saturday to get those last straggling Christmas cards, and what do I find sitting on the bottom of the pile … my published article!
I am beyond excited! This has been a long time coming. Last summer I got an email from one of the editors asking me if I’d be interested in doing an article for the Hobby Farms January/February 2014 issue. They had been following this little blog of mine and were interested in hiring me to do an article on trellising!
While it’s always exciting to see your work published, I was especially excited for this publication. I’ve been reading Hobby Farms for years, I love the garden articles and I fantasize about animal husbandry. I’ve tried getting my husband to get some meat critters (cows) on occasion but he always has the best rebuttal: “But when it comes time to harvest you will cry and we’ll end up having these ‘meat critters’ as pets!”
And as much as I hate to admit it … he’s right.
I would cry. And the cows, chickens or lambs (or whatever homesteading animal that has caught my fancy) would become our eternal pets. So for now I will continue gardening and simply imagine my small allotment filled with animals.
So back to my article – on Alternative Trellising Methods …
I almost completely forgot about the article getting released between the holidays and other work projects. So getting it in my mailbox was a wonderful early Christmas present!
And to see my byline in print … Oh-My-Gosh! It is exciting!
I feel so completely blessed to have a career that I love, and the ability to share my enchantment and passion about plants and gardening with others!
